Surprise, Surprise

Not that anyone still reads anything that is written here since it has been since Winnie was born that I posted anything, but here is our latest and greatest.  We went to the Dr. yesterday to make sure that everything was okay with Jana.  Yes, she is pregnant.  That is exciting enough right.  Well imagine our surprise when we saw the ultrasound machine.....
Yes, those are two babies.  We are going to have twins.  We are excited and a little overwhelmed.  Also, on a side note   We are moving to Boise ID sometime next month.  My company, SelectHealth, opened up an office there and I get to be a part of it!  We like to make things as exciting as possible.

Welcome Winnie Lou Allred

Here is the story behind Winnie's birth. We had a ward campout planned for the 22nd up Little Cottonwood Canyon at Tanner Flatts. Jana thought that she was up for camping out and sleeping on the ground. As a precaution and almost a joke, we also brought along our hospital bag in case Jana went into labor. After games and food, we all bedded down at about 10:00 pm. At about 2:30 pm I was awoken by Jana who told me that her contraction were anywhere from 2 to 4 min apart; what should we do? So we loaded our sleeping gear up in the car, told our friends to take down our tent for us, and headed down the canyon to drop Gabe off at one or our only friend's that wasn't camping. We went home, showered, gathered a few extra odds and ends, and headed to the hospital. We got checked into the hospital, walked the halls for a bit, and Jana sat in the Jacuzzi tub. Soon after, Jana's water broke, they called the Dr. on call and she had the baby. Everything went really well. Jana was pretty calm, considering and completed her goal of delivering without an epidural. Nothing like a little clean mountain air and a hard bed to induce labor.
So far I only have the pictures from my cell phone. We had loaned our car to a friend and it wasn't until after the fact that we realized that our camera was in the car. So any pictures that we have of Winnie in her first few hours are from my cell phone. As soon as I get the camera downloaded, I'll post more pictures. I also noticed that it has been about a year since I last posted, what a coincidence. Anyway, enjoy the pictures.

We think she is beautiful and we are so happy she is part of our family. Gabe loves her too. He refers to her as "my baby" which is pretty cute. He is always saying, "don't be sad baby" and "wake up baby; Mom, my baby is waking up." He is still figuring out how to give soft kisses and hugs, but he is trying hard.
Stats:
7 lbs 7 oz
20.5 inches long
born at 7:45 am on Saturday July 23rd

Catching up on some pictures.

Here are some pictures of Gabe. I think the order is backwards. They uploaded in the opposite order I selected them.

This is a recent picture of Gabe. He is finally up and walking around.

Jana and I aren't very good at remembering to take pictures and even worse at updating this blog. Maybe we'll get better at it some day, but I doubt it.

Gabe gets a ride

Our cute neighbor boy gave Gabe a ride in his Mustang the other day. Gabe is looking at him in awe that he can drive.

Oops

It has been a while since I have posted anything. Gabe has grown up so much since his birthday. He now whispers the word hot, and has no clue what it means. He can also say mom and dad, but gets them confused a lot. He loves to pull himself up on anything and walk along side it. He still has lots of blond hair.
Other than an infection under his fingernail from cutting it too short, losing his nail because of it, and lots of antibiotics including shots and oral; life has been pretty normal. I need to post some pics.

Gabe's First Birthday

So Gabe turned 1 on the 12th. We celebrated once with just the three of us and once with extended family. It was Jana's birthday on the 14th, and Gabe's Uncle Jeremy's on the 13th, so we did a group celebration. It was a lot of fun.

This is Gabe eating a cup cake on his group celebration day.

This is Gabe before his bath, notice the frosting and cake on the back of his neck.
Singing Happy Birthday to Gabe. I love the little dance he does. That is his new ball popper toy in the back ground and he is wearing his new clothes from Grandma Allred.

This is Gabe working it with his new toy.

Second Christmas Dinner

So ever since I can remember my family (the Allreds) have had Spaghetti and Meat Balls for Christmas Dinner (notice the respect that it received, capitalized). My parents wanted to start a tradition and asked the kids what they wanted for Christmas Dinner. Of course our first response was McDonalds. That was not possible, because we lived in Dubois WY where there is no McDonalds, nor was it wanted by the parents. The next suggestion, by my brother, was spaghetti and meat balls. Of course if my brother wanted it, so did I. The vote passed two to one. It has been a tradition ever since. I have many fond memories of eating Spaghetti and Meat Balls every Christmas Eve ever since. My family came to Salt Lake for the new year celebration and my dad brought some meat balls that were pre-made so that the tradition could continue. As you can see by Gabe's face, he loved them. He ate several, it was pretty funny.

When Jana and I were first married we stoped and took a picture here on our way back to Salt Lake. So we had to take another one with Gabe.
